To visit the Isle of Wight you have to cross a stretch of water called 'The Solent'. In order to do this you have to take either a ferry or hovercraft. Both means of transport have to be booked in advance and both will add an extra cost to your travel expenses.

The main ways of crossing to the Island are:

  • Southsea to Ryde - Hovertravel
  • Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier - Wightlink Fast Cat Passenger Only Ferry
  • Portsmouth to Fishbourne - Wightlink Car & Passenger Ferry
  • Southampton to East Cowes - Red Funnel Car & Passenger Ferry
  • Southampton to Cowes - Red Funnel High Speed Passenger Only Ferry
  • Lymington to Yarmouth - Wightlink Car & Passenger Ferry
